Madrigal Dinner 2024

Madrigal Dinner is a wonderful evening of holiday entertainment which includes concert performances by every THS choir. A five-course catered dinner, served by our choir students acting as peasants and beggars, is interwoven with a humorous Renaissance period skit, choir performances, and audience participation. Students and parents transform the THS Commons into a castle dining hall, complete with drawbridge, fireplace, and castle walls.  

Madrigal is also a MAJOR fundraiser for the choir program.  There is a silent auction with a lot of wonderful items and raffle baskets.  Students will donate items for the raffle baskets.  They will be given specific items to donate by class.

Madrigal Dinner Participants

All Choir students sing with their choir at all 3 performances.  Each student also serves dinner at all of the performances.  Because these are concert performances, it is required.  If a student cannot participate due to academic ineligibility or UIL conflict, (club sports do not qualify and will not be excused), the director will give suitable make-up assignment. Advance notice is required in this case.

Costumes 

Women: Dress as female peasants.  Women will need to purchase or make a costume.  The basic costume consists of a blouse or underdress, long skirt, a vest or laces/bodice, an apron (optional), a headpiece, and sandal/ballet/flat shoes.  Colors should be dark, cottony or burlap-like, nothing fancy, and no gold or silver.  Cream blouses are OK.

Men: Dress as beggars/male peasants.  Basic costume is a long tunic and a long sleeve mock turtleneck, tights, a rope belt and sandals or dark slippers.  Men will need to purchase a long-sleeved mock turtleneck, tights and sandals or dark slippers.  Tunics and rope belts will be distributed the week of Madrigal.

Rehearsals 

All choir students rehearse in class.  Mandatory dress rehearsal will be on November 30th after school.

Student Dinners 

Students need to eat at home before they arrive.  A student may sit and eat with their family for one meal but a ticket must be purchased for the student. 

Parent Help 

At least one parent per family is expected to work at least one work night or one performance.  Work nights for this year are November 8th, 15th and 29th.  Performance night volunteer positions are raffle, auction, plating food and drinks, set up and tear down.  You may sign up to volunteer here: 

Ticket Information  Tickets are $35 each.  Tickets go on sale November 1st to choir families, and November 8th to the public.  Ticket sales will be online only.  A link will be provided on November 1st on the Taylor Choir website, www.taylorchoir.org. All ticket sales are final.
